Mother's Day Weekend: Camping at Horseshoe Bend

This past Saturday, we loaded up the Tahoe & headed to Horseshoe Bend camping area on Lake Travis. Our neighbor, Becca, came along with her boyfriend, Brannon, and his two girls, Claire & Catherine; it was the girls' first camping trip, so we were all excited to get out there & start the camping trip off right!

Claire insisted on wearing her princess dress during the entire camping trip. Hey - a princess has to have a break to camp every now & then too, right?!

We hadn't been at camp for 30 minutes before the guys had built our first fire. The wind was SO STRONG on Saturday, so our fire blew sideways basically the entire time. (It died down at night, which was nice for sleeping, though.)

Mid-afternoon, Austin got on his swim trunks & we headed to the water for some swimming and playing in the water. He is really starting to like the water more, which makes me look more forward to his swim lessons early next month! Maybe he'll end up being just like Justin in the water -- a fish!!

After a fun afternoon at camp, it was time for dinner! The kids enjoyed hot dogs & Spaghetti-Os, courtesy of Brannon. We adults had chicken fajitas, which were delicious as well!

That night, Brannon put on "Monsters Inc" on his laptop in their tent & the kids settled down for a bedtime show. It was the perfect end to a great day for the kids...

Saturday night wasn't too much fun for me. Austin & I shared an air mattress in our tent, which slowly deflated to being totally flat by early morning. Plus, Austin is a totally crazy sleeper, so between having legs flailing on me, hearing him snore, and talk in his sleep, I didn't get much sleep. Add on top of that that Kaylee woke up at 3am & announced that "I'm done" (sleeping, that is). It took me about 30 minutes to convince her that we still needed to sleep before we could get up when the sun woke up. It was a LOOOOOOOOOONG night, to say the least.

Morning arrived, we all got up & enjoyed breakfast tacos for breakfast, and then started packing up our camp. By 11:30, we were packed & headed back to Round Rock... and Kaylee enjoyed dancing around while we were packing, as you can see below...

Sunday afternoon called for a long 3-hour nap for Kaylee, a 1-hour nap for me (amazing because I never get to take naps!!), and just some relaxation for the guys. We went to a cookout at the park with Brian & Leslie and their families to celebrate Mother's Day, then were back home that night to enjoy our own beds and our own home again.

We had a great weekend!

As for Mother's Day... Austin colored me a really great picture that I had drawn for him a few weeks ago, and the kids gave me a sweet card. I had picked out & bought my Mother's Day gift (a Scentsy candle system) a few weeks ago, so there wasn't much surprise in the day for me! But I'm so thankful for the wonderful children that God blessed me with, and am also thankful for my awesome husband!!
