Easter 2011

What a fun Easter weekend we had!  I was out of school on Friday, so on Thursday afternoon, we were packed & loaded and ready to head to Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka, Oklahoma.  

We started a new tradition last year with Justin's parents to meet them up there on Easter weekend, camp out, ride 4-wheelers on the sand dunes & have our Easter festivities up there.  After driving all night, we finally arrived at the camp site around 12:30 am.

Friday morning, everyone was up pretty early, so we made our first trip to Millers Cafe for breakfast.  (The BEST home-cooked breakfasts ever -- I love this place!)  Afterward, we went back to camp, got the 4-wheelers ready & headed out for some fun.  (After the kids opened their Easter baskets from Mimi & Pawpaw, of course!)

It was WINDY... but we still had a blast.

While on the dunes, we stopped for a break & Austin found this cute little caterpillar that he played with for about 30 minutes; we even  had to transport it back to our camp so he could set it free close to where we were staying!

The rest of Friday was relaxing -- I laid out in a lawn chair in the sun & read my book while the kids played and everyone else relaxed (or played on the dunes) as well.  Dinner that night was BBQ chicken on the grill, and before we knew it, we were getting ready for bed.

Saturday morning was breakfast at Miller's Cafe (again) & then a community-wide Easter Egg Hunt.  The lady that was renting us her camper told us about the hunt & the kids were SO excited that they were going to get to hunt eggs!

They split up the kids by ages, and Kaylee's age group went first.  She ended up with quite a few eggs & was so excited to show Mimi & Pawpaw what she had found!

Next was Austin's age group.  He needed NO HELP at all & ran around like crazy gathering up all of the eggs that he could.  I honestly couldn't even get a decent picture of him hunting eggs because he was so fast!!  He ended up with lots of eggs too & was really excited!

Saturday afternoon, Justin's Mom, Kaylee & I drove to Enid to do some shopping; the closest town worth shopping in (Enid, OK) is about an hour from the dunes, but we were getting a bit stircrazy sitting at the camp all day, so we headed out & found some super great deals.  

That night we had dinner at a local Mexican restaurant, headed back to the camper for a game of Scrabble & headed off to bed.

Sunday morning (Easter morning) involved breakfast at Millers (one last time), packing up the camper & loading the trucks, and the guys enjoying one last ride out in the dunes.  It was close to noon by the time we left there... and then had to endure the longest trip ever back home.  Our regular 8-hour drive took us 10 hours!!  Ugh.  Between the hard rain that we drove through & the horrible traffic we faced here in Texas on I-35, it was a LONG drive. Thankfully, we made it home safe just in time to get the kids in the bath, jammies & bed.

But, guess what?  The Easter Bunny didn't forget about us this year!  He came 1 day late & ended up leaving baskets for the kids on Monday morning!  They were so excited!

Funny how the Easter Bunny knows when you're not home on Easter morning...

...kinda like Santa Claus at Christmas!
