The day that I finished my student teaching, we loaded up the car & headed to Broken Bow, Oklahoma to meet my family. We have been wanting to get together for a family weekend for years now, but had never planned anything. Well... that changed this year! My parents pulled their new camper trailer there early on Friday while my brother & sister-in-law met them there mid-afternoon once they got off work. We drove to Broken Bow that night & spent the night in a hotel before we drove on to Beavers Bend Park on Saturday morning.
We hit the ground running when we got there. Mom had made a delicious breakfast for all of us, and we enjoyed getting to have breakfast at the picnic table overlooking the river underneath all of the beautiful trees. As soon as we got the meal cleaned up, we headed to the nature center & museum, just a small hike from our campsites.
The kids enjoyed getting their pictures next to some really cool wood carvings.
Aunt Rachel showing Kaylee the bears...
Back at the camper, Kaylee decided it was time for a snack. She has been eating these little Cutie oranges like they're going out of style lately; it's nothing for her to eat 6-8 in one day!
And here's a few random shots of Mom & Dad's camper. I will have to say that it's VERY comfortable & I could honestly live in it for the rest of my days & be happy. They never had anything like this while I was growing up & have just gotten interested in camping over the past few years, so I'm so happy to see them finally enjoying retirement & getting to travel some.
Austin's favorite part of the camper is the fireplace -- it puts out heat, but it's basically just a light show that looks like flames. It has a remote control, so he thinks he's big stuff when he's sitting across the room & turns it on & off.
We also enjoyed the TV in their camper as well; when it was "quiet time" for Kaylee in the afternoons, we'd put on a Dora movie & she'd sit quietly (or sleep)... yea for TV!
Austin quickly became a HUGE fan of fishing! There was great trout fishing & he, Justin, my brother, sister-in-law, and Dad would go fishing at least once a day while we were there. Austin caught more fish than anyone else, so he was pretty proud...
(My brother even got him to offer fishing lessons to my sister-in-law... crazy boys!)
On Saturday night, while the guys were outside enjoying the camp fire, Rachel, Mom, Kaylee & I stayed inside & enjoyed the recliners. THIS is my idea of camping!!
Saturday night, my parents rented my little family a cabin to stay in, which was really neat. The kids shared the pull-out sofa bed while Justin & I had our own bedroom. It was nice to be able to go to our own place, sleep & then meet up with everyone the next morning.
Sunday morning was another delicious breakfast that everyone made & then it was time for playtime at the playground...
...followed by some more fishing, of course! (That's Austin with my brother, Brian)
Justin & I headed back to Austin early afternoon on Sunday. The kids stayed with my parents, camped 1 more night & then headed home with them on Monday morning. I had a trip planned to Key West for a friend's wedding, so the kids got to enjoy a whole week on the farm with Nanna & Pock...
We had a great time & we HIGHLY recommend Beavers Bend Park to anyone wanting to go camping in SE Oklahoma.

Their camper looks REALLY nice!! Rhett eats those cutie oranges like Kaylee does. Sometimes that's all he wants to eat!
